CODE OF CONDUCT
This document sets out the appropriate actions and conduct expected of all curlers associated with the Vankleek Hill Curling Club and includes everyone attending/participating in an event at the curling club.
Curlers and guests at the VKHCC have a responsibility to:
1. Treat each other with the highest standards of respect and integrity
2. Treat each other fairly and reasonably
3. Demonstrate consistently the spirit of sportsmanship, sport leadership and ethical conduct
4. Focus comments or criticism appropriately and avoid public criticism of fellow curlers, members, staff, and guests
5. Act when appropriate to correct or prevent situations that are unjustly harassing or discriminating
6. Ensure adherence to the rules of the sport and the spirit of those rules
Curling Etiquette
· The game always begins and ends with a handshake and introductions if necessary
· While your opponent is delivering a rock, stand well behind the hack or above the hog line and do not move around
· Always be ready to throw when it is your turn – do not linger in the hack
· Do not move your opponent’s rocks out to the front of the hack – let her/him choose their own rock
· After sweeping a rock, return to the other end in single file, well to the side of the sheet
· Only the skip and third is allowed behind the house while the opponent is throwing and they must stand still and remain quiet
· You should congratulate your opponent for a good shot but never say anything to intimidate her/him
· When the end is completed, seconds and leads should stay out of the house until the thirds have agreed on the count
· After an end, only the second and third should push the stones to the boards. The lead should get out their 1st stone and prepare to deliver
· Be careful not to hit other curlers when pushing rocks into the corners
· Notify your skip prior to game time if you are unable to curl the scheduled game
